Quotes Of The Day
The qualification round was delayed due to overnight and morning bad weather: we were anyway able to start the competition at 1:00 PM. A total of 68 men and 55 women competed, each giving their best on five different boulders. The top 20 athletes in each category advanced to the semifinals. The event ran smoothly and was well-organized thanks to the efforts of everyone involved. A special thanks to all the judges and volunteers: a bouldering competition requires a significant number of helpers, we are very rateful to everyone who contributed to the success of the day.
Julia Pinggera, FISU Technical Committee Member for Sport Climbing & Event Delegate
We were close to canceling the qualifications due to the weather, but then e managed to organize the competition and the day turned out well. We knew the level of around 20 athletes, therefore it was difficult to predict the overall level of performance in advance. this was the biggest challenge of the day. In the end, we set the boulder using different styles: some were more difficult, others of medium difficulty while others seemed easier. The good news is that no athlete finished with zero points. After the qualifications, our job will become easier, since we’ve had the chance to see how the athletes are performing.
